Trevan’s Memoir

One time I was at a store where I decided to get an item. I walked over to the cash register and saw an elderly man in a store uniform. He looked to be well over 70 years old. I could tell he had bad vision because he was wearing glasses. I paid for the $9.00 item with a $20.00 bill. The man gave me 2 $10.00 bills instead of a $1.00 bill and a $10.00 bill. I knew he gave me the extra money because of his vision problems. Nobody was around so I thought about just saying “Thank you” and walking out. But I felt bad for the poor old man who obviously didn’t have enough money to retire. The man stared at me and asked, “ What’s the matter”? I decided to fess up and I answered, “ You gave me a 10 instead of a 1. The elderly man looked at the ten-dollar bill and said “ OH. Thank you son, I didn’t realize that”! I answered with a simple “ Your welcome”. I started to walk away when the man yelled “ God bless you son.” I turned and waved at him. When I walked out the door and heard the ringer on the door ring and I felt very good inside. While driving home I told my mom about the great story. She was very proud of me because I told the man that he gave me to much money. I now always do the same thing I did that day at any store. I usually just do it whenever and wherever I need to. That day I learned a great life lesson and I feel very good about what I did!
